When I was very young,I saw a cartoon,in which a big monster was trying to destroy a city.I was shocked,and asked dad what that was.It was the first time when I heard of dinosaurs,and just from that moment,I was interested in everything about them.I looked up the word “dinosaur” in a dictionary,and the statement was as follows:Dinosaurs are large extinct reptiles,which lived in the Mesozoic Era.They have a number of breeds with different shapes.Some are as tall as 30 meters.They all died out at the end of the Mesozoic Era.The more information I found,the more I knew about them.Dinosaurs lived between 200 million years and 35 million years ago,and human beings did not exist during that period.The only way people can learn about dinosaurs is through fossils.The buried bodies or skeletons of ancient animals or plants would change into special stones after millions of years.We call stones of this kind fossils.The discovery of fossils helps people learn very much valuable information about ancient creatures.People dig out fossils,and conclude the environment dinosaurs lived in and their characters.Some dinosaurs lived in the river; some lived in the forest; while others dominated in the sand.Some of them were quite gentle,which lived on plants and did no harm to other creatures; while others were very fierce and cruel and fed on meat,which were famous for their sharp teeth and paws and could tear other smaller animals into pieces within a few seconds.We commonly see them in horror movies.Why such a big kingdom that ruled this planet for about 170 million years disappeared totally?Even experts cannot give us a sure answer to this question.There are some commonly accepted conclusions,such as asteroids hitting the earth,atmosphere changing sharply,they dying of diseases,volcano erupting,and many other opinions.Did they just leave this planet without any signs?Explorers have found many strange footprints not made by human beings in deep forests and high mountains.They also took many pictures of living creatures in the Loch Ness.Are these footprints made by dinosaurs?Are the living creatures in the Loch Ness dinosaurs who survived?No one can work out this puzzle.However,one thing is for sure.Many modern animals have the similar characters to the ancient dinosaurs.Scientists believe they evolve from dinosaurs.If we keep on explore the unknowing area in this planet,we may find more information about dinosaurs.
