这个问题我查了一下大连理工大学出版社出版的一本《英语说文解词》,书里面指出“充当姓名的颜色词反映出持姓名的祖先偏爱某种颜色借以表达一种意向,或属于某类肤色的人种.”里面列举了一些常用的表示颜色的姓,比如Black,Blue,Brown,Dark,Gray,Green,Orange,Pink,Red,Scarlet,Violet,White,其中解释了一些姓,比如Black,黑色是肤色黑的或黑发的人,Brown是头发或皮肤带褐色的人,Gray,灰色头发或灰色胡子的人,Green,爱穿绿色衣服者,Scarlet,鲜艳织物的印染者,所以对于你关于why的提问,我的理解是这些姓都反映了姓氏持有者祖先的特征,而这些特征恰好跟颜色有关,因此英语中就会有五彩缤纷的颜色做为姓氏了.而是不是每个颜色都能做姓,我想应该不是的,毕竟英语中颜色太多了,都做姓应该不太可能.
其实英语中还很多有意思的姓名,比如有以动物为姓名的,如Bee,Bird,Bull,Sheep,有以植物为姓名的,比如Apple,Lily,Peach,还有我的名字Laurel也是,还有以国家为姓名的,比如Roman,Spain,Angles,还有以职业,官职,身份为姓名的,比如Baker,Duke,Urban,以地形,地貌为姓名,如Hill,Land,Pool,还有表示季节,月份,日期的如Summer,Spring,March等,更搞笑的是还有人以武器,器物为姓名,所有有Sword（剑）,Stone（石头）,Glass（玻璃）,Coke（焦炭）,而且居然还有人姓棺材（Coffin）,（姓这个的人日子还怎么过啊!我先替他寒一个～）另外还有以人体部位,如Arms,Foot,以绰号,如Swift（飞毛腿）为姓名的.
总之英语的名字里学问很大哦.
