A car runs on coffee、
Everybody is eager to find a substitute for fossil fuel*,and now it seems some British eco-engineers have found a unique solution — your average, everyday, coffee beans.
Once a rundown (减产的)1988 Volkswagen Scirocco (1988年产的大众“尚酷”),the car the engineers are working on now resembles something out the 1980’s classics,Back to the Future.Simply speaking, the car works by heating the beans at incredible temperatures (700℃).This breaks down the beans into a gas; the gas is then spun at very high speeds, separating out any solid and useless matter.Whatever gas is left over is then passed onto the engine, where it is roasted, and then ready to power the vehicle. And the result?Well, the nicknamed “Car-puccino” can grind out a top speed of up to 60mph.
Coffee, much like the more traditional fuels of wood or coal, contains some carbon content. So it can be used as a fuel-substitute.But unlike the others,coffee-beans provide a much more eco-friendly means for powering our vehicles. Now,with global warming very much at the fore-front of international politics, the concept is sure to gain support from a lot of people.
However,I’m sorry to say,the news isn’t all good. The car does have its faults — like the extraordinary price of running a car on coffee beans. The car’s creators admit that it could cost anywhere from 25 to 50 times the cost of running a car on petrol.
So while the Car-puccino may be an awesome concept,it could be a while yet before we see this re-invented Volkswagen on our streets.
