华南虎亦称“中国虎”，是中国特有的虎种，生活在中国中南部。主要生活在森林山地。多单独生活，不成群，多在夜间活动，嗅觉发达，行动敏捷，善于游泳，但不善于爬树。在中国的19个动物园中还有70只圈养的华南虎，为国家一级保护动物。华南虎的濒临灭绝，实在是一个历史大悲剧。建国初期，野生华南虎的数量还有4000多头。经过20世纪50年代和60年代持续进行的大规模捕杀，华南虎种群遭受重创，一蹶不振.野外未来的森林之王仅存不到30只。
The South-China Tiger also called china-Tiger. It’s the special kind (species) of tigers only live in China. They live in the south and middle China. They like to live alone in the forest. They are sensitive; they like to come out at night. They are good at swimming but they can’t climb trees well. There are only seventy South- China-Tiger in nineteen zoos in China now. They are the A level national animal protection. The South-China Tiger becoming endangered is a very sad story. At the beginning of the new China, we still had four thousand wild tigers. But after the large killing in 50s and 60s of the 20 century, the species had a serious hurt, we only have less than 30 wild king now.
